Most people who book a first Reiki session arrive with the same quiet worry: that they are supposed to feel something specific, and that they will fail to feel it. So here is the session described plainly, without mystique.

Before you arrive
You do not need to prepare. You do not need to have meditated, or read anything, or believe anything in particular. Come as you are, ideally not immediately after a heavy meal, and wear something you can lie down in comfortably.
If you are pregnant, recovering from surgery, or being treated for a medical condition, mention it when you book. Reiki is not a substitute for medical care and we will never suggest otherwise, but it does sit alongside it comfortably, and knowing your situation helps us adjust.
The first ten minutes
We talk first. Not a formal intake, just a conversation: what brought you in, how you have been sleeping, whether there is something specific sitting on you at the moment. Some people arrive with a clear reason - a bereavement, a decision they cannot make, months of poor sleep. Others just feel flat and cannot say why. Both are perfectly good reasons to be there.
This part matters more than it looks. It sets what the session is for.
The session itself
You stay fully clothed. You lie on a treatment table, on your back, under a blanket if you want one. Shoes off, phone off.
The practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above your body, moving slowly through a sequence of positions - head, shoulders, torso, knees, feet. The touch is still and light. There is no massage, no manipulation, no pressure. If you would rather not be touched at all, say so, and the whole session can be done with hands hovering just above you. Nobody will ask you why.
Then, mostly, nothing happens for an hour. The room is quiet. You may drift.
What people actually report
This varies enormously, and that is worth saying clearly rather than promising a particular experience.
Common: warmth, sometimes surprisingly strong, moving under the practitioner's hands. Heaviness, the pleasant kind, like being pressed gently into the table. Deep sleepiness. A lot of people fall asleep, which is fine and not a waste of the session.
Also common: emotion arriving without a story attached - tears that seem to come from nowhere, or a wave of relief. If this happens, it is not a crisis and you have not lost control. It is one of the more useful things that can happen in the room.
Less common but not unusual: seeing colours behind closed eyes, twitching as the body lets go of tension, a sense of pins and needles.
And sometimes: not much at all. Some people feel pleasantly relaxed and nothing more. That is a legitimate outcome, not a failed session, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.
Afterwards
You will be groggy for a few minutes. Take your time getting up. Drink some water.
The rest of the day is often quiet - people describe feeling softened, or unusually tired by early evening, and tend to sleep well that night. Occasionally the opposite happens and you feel energised. Both pass.
If something surfaced during the session that you want to talk through, that is what the conversation at the end is for.
What it will not do
Reiki will not cure disease. It will not replace medication, therapy, or a doctor's opinion, and no responsible practitioner will suggest pausing any of those. If someone tells you that energy work alone will treat a serious illness, leave.
What it does reliably offer is an hour of deep rest and a nervous system that has been given permission to stand down. For people who are chronically braced - and in Beirut, that is a great many of us - that hour is not a small thing.
How many sessions
For general stress, a single session is often enough to feel a difference. For something longer-standing, three or four weekly sessions give a fairer trial. After that, people who find it useful tend to come monthly, in the way others go for a swim or a long walk.
Do not book a package before you have had one session. Try it once, notice honestly whether it did anything for you, and decide from there.
Reiki sessions at Rise Flow Heal run for 60 minutes at our studio in Tabaris, Beirut, in English, French or Arabic. If you are unsure whether it is the right thing for you, message us and describe what is going on - we will tell you honestly if something else would suit you better.
