Sound healing is easy to describe and hard to explain: you lie down, someone plays instruments around you, and you listen. This article says what a session is like, what people tend to notice, and what nobody can honestly promise.
Who this is not for
Sound healing is not a treatment for any condition and does not replace medical care. If you are unwell, see a doctor first.
Tell the practitioner beforehand if you are pregnant, if you have epilepsy or are sensitive to sudden sounds, or if you have a history of panic attacks or trauma. Lying still with your eyes closed can bring things up, and it is better to plan for that than to be surprised by it.
It is also not the right choice if you want something with strong proof behind it. Studies suggest that slow, repetitive sound can lower stress and help people relax, but they are small, and no one can say that sound "heals" the body. What we can say is that many people find it deeply restful, and that is why we offer it.
What actually happens
You arrive a few minutes early and settle on a mat with a blanket, a cushion under your head or knees if you like. Wear something loose and warm.
Loulwa, who trained in Bali, plays her instruments around you for about an hour. There is no routine to follow. You close your eyes, and the sound rises, softens and moves around the room.
You do not need to meditate, focus or stay awake. If your mind wanders, that is allowed. If you fall asleep, that is allowed too. At the end there is a quiet moment to come back before you sit up.
What people report
Deep relaxation, often more than they expected. A slowed breath. Warmth, heaviness or a light tingling. Images, memories or emotion that rise and pass. Some people sleep, others stay alert the whole time, and a few simply feel calm and a little spacious afterwards.
The honest caveat is that an hour of lying down in a quiet room with nothing asked of you is restful in itself, and a session is hard to separate from that. We do not claim more than this.
Private or group
A private session is played for you alone, which suits you if you are new, sensitive to noise or in a difficult stretch. A group session shares the room with a few others and costs less.
Sound & Energy Healing adds hands-on energy work from Caroline while Loulwa plays, and is offered in a small group or privately. If you only want the sound, ask for a private Sound Healing session.
Why it suits people who struggle to meditate
Sitting still and watching the breath asks a lot of a busy mind. With sound, there is something for the attention to rest on without effort. For many people it is an easier first step than guided meditation, and some go on to try both.
Something to try today
Five minutes, no booking and no instruments needed. Lie down, put your phone on silent and close your eyes. Listen to the sounds around you, near ones first, then the far ones: a fan, a car, a neighbour, your own breath. Do not name them or judge them. When your mind drifts, go back to listening. That plain act of listening is what a session asks of you, just with better music.
Sound Healing and Sound & Energy Healing are held at the studio in Beirut. See energy healing for what is offered, prices and how to book. If you are unsure whether it suits you, message us and describe what is going on - we will tell you honestly.
